Every organization, no matter the age, experience, size, personnel, leadership, financial status, geographic location, color of their logo, shape of their building headquarters... is at their current situation. Yet, remember the current year is 2025 - no organization is oblivious to cybersecurity considerations and challenges. It is inaccurate to think that an organization isn't aware of at least some of their challenges. However, as cybersecurity practitioners, especially those looking in from the outside, it is easy to default to simple criticisms or anecdotal call-outs about how that organization may function. Accurate as those feelings may be, they don't actually help move the organization forward, or turn the ship around. If you're truly motivated- as an employee, board member, consultant, executive leader, there are doable opportunities to truly make a difference. Let's talk through ways to make meaningful progress on the cybersecurity journey we all are on.
Steve Goers has been in the Cybersecurity industry for the last 20 years, and in IT a number of years before that. While I'm proud of my Computer Engineering degree from the University of Minnesota, I'm more proud to be a part of an industry that has people from all walks of life find an opportunity to be successful. I'm also big on technical accuracy. I'm big on telling it like it is, not merely as we may want it to be.
