  1. Purpose and Scope

This Copyright Policy (“Policy”) applies to all participants at SecretCon, including speakers, sponsors, volunteers, vendors, and attendees. Its purpose is to ensure responsible use of copyrighted materials and protect the intellectual property rights of all parties.

  1. Ownership of Content
    • Speaker and Sponsor Content: All slides, handouts, videos, or other materials shared by speakers and sponsors remain the intellectual property of their respective owners or licensors.
    • SecretCon Branding and Materials: The SecretCon name, logo, website content, and other branding materials are owned or licensed by SecretCon. They may not be reproduced without prior written permission, except as otherwise permitted by law (e.g., fair use).
  1. Speaker and Sponsor Obligations
    • Responsibility for Rights Clearance: Speakers and sponsors are solely responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary rights and permissions to use or distribute the materials (including images, music, videos, software, and text) they present or provide at SecretCon. All speakers and sponsors should understand that the content they are providing at the event can and will be shared by SecretCon.
    • Indemnification: By presenting or distributing materials, speakers and sponsors agree to indemnify and hold harmless SecretCon from any claims or damages resulting from copyright infringement or unauthorized use of third-party content.
    • SecretCon Limited Liability: SecretCon is not liable if speakers or sponsors provide copyrighted content that is unknowingly published or displayed on SecretCon platforms. Should a speaker or sponsor provide copyrighted material without the proper rights, SecretCon reserves the right to remove such content promptly upon notice.
    • SecretCon is not responsible for misinformation or disinformation. Speakers and sponsors are solely responsible for accurate information shared.
  1. Attendee-Created Media
    • Photography and Recording: Attendees may not take photographs, videos, or audio recordings at SecretCon for personal, non-commercial use, or commercial use (e.g., a speaker expressly requests no recording). Except when permitted by the event organizer and wearing the properly assigned press badge.
    • Use of Recorded Content: If you or anyone posts or shares photos, videos, or other recorded media from SecretCon, you are responsible for ensuring it does not violate our policies, copyrights, trademarks, or other rights of any third party.
    • Limitations and Restrictions: All activities, sessions, or exhibits may have specific restrictions on recording or photography. Everyone must comply with any such instructions. Basically, if you don’t have a press badge, you don’t record or share anything.
  1. Distribution of Conference Content
    • Conference Materials: SecretCon may record, photograph, live-stream, or otherwise document sessions and activities. These materials may be used for promotional, archival, or educational purposes at SecretCon's discretion. SecretCon may grant others do capture this information on their behalf. They will be identified with a press badge or are part of the AV crew.
    • Sharing Official Content: Official SecretCon content—such as live-streams, videos, or presentation decks—may only be copied, reproduced, distributed, or modified with prior written permission from SecretCon or as otherwise permitted by applicable law.
  1. Reporting Copyright Infringements
    • Notice Procedure: If you believe that any content displayed at SecretCon or on its Platforms infringes your copyright, please notify SecretCon beginning with our contact us page or by calling 612-666-0000 followed within 24 hours with the following details:
      • A clear description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed.
      • A description of the location or nature of the infringing material (e.g., booth number, session title, URL).
      • Your contact information, including name, address, telephone number, and email.
      • A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material is not authorized.
      • Your electronic or physical signature or that of a person authorized to act on your behalf.
    • Response to Claims: Upon receiving proper notice, SecretCon will investigate and, when appropriate, remove or disable access to allegedly infringing content. Where possible, we will attempt to contact the content provider so they can address the claim.
  1. Disclaimer and Liability
    • No Warranty: SecretCon makes no representations or warranties that materials presented by speakers, sponsors, or attendees do not infringe upon the rights of any third party.
    • Limitation of Liability: SecretCon will not be liable for any damages arising from the use, misuse, or inability to use conference materials or Platforms. Speakers, sponsors, and attendees assume all risks associated with using copyrighted materials at SecretCon.

SecretCon may update or revise this Policy at any time to reflect changes in the law, organizational needs, or community feedback. Any updates will be posted on our official website or other communication channels. By continuing to attend or participate in SecretCon, you agree to be bound by the most current version of the Policy.
