Revisiting Bitsquatting - Using DNS to hack DNS

Think DNS bitsquatting is a relic of the past? Think again. In this talk, I'll reveal how bitsquatting remains a formidable threat in the cyber landscape, with new attack angles constantly emerging. We'll dissect potential attacks, explore effective defenses, and discuss the broader implications of this enduring vulnerability. Get ready for a deep dive into the mechanics of bitsquatting and practical defenses to safeguard against it. Presentation Importance: My presentation builds on Artem Dinaburg’s discovery from 2011 and subsequent conversation within the security community, taking a disregarded and abstract concept and illustrates how it can be used for truly nefarious means in a modern environment. Members of the community will walk away with a solid understanding of a revived cold vulnerability, how to protect against it, how to approach similar opportunities to develop new attacks from old techniques, and how to apply persistent long-term testing and experimentation to obscure problems.
